The Earth Made Flesh series of Frescoes finds its impetus in the human-centric environment initiated by the destructive European practices that began a cycle of environmental destruction and natural resource waste that continues to this very day. The Americas in particular would have had vastly different natural and cultural trajectories had European colonizers not arrived. These works are precursors to the sculptures and installations I have made in recent years that touch on the theme of natural and human injustice as it pertains to the mining of these resources. I chose the fresco technique because it has been employed since antiquity. The fresco was often utilized to depict important cultural and spiritual images and constitute valuable historical testimonials. It is a technique of painting water-based pigments upon freshly laid plaster.
